Nice replacement for my old early '90's vintage Radio Shack scanner +++++ Great audio Lightning Speed

Johnnie Welborn Jr. (Williston, US) Just for the record, I only use a scanner for railfan/aviation photography and purchased the BCD160DN to safeguard against the change to digital but BW emailed with concerns about encryption for my area of northwest North Dakota, likely thinking I'd be disappointed if I could not pick up local law enforcement, etc. I give high marks for the effort to ensure I was not buying a scanner that wouldn't serve my purposes. Shipping and packaging was very good. I had downloaded the programming software months ago and already had my frequencies, labels, etc. arranged as wished, so it was only a matter of unpacking the unit, connecting it to my laptop and writing the file to the scanner. There was only one hiccup when connecting to the computer: "Mass storage" never did display on the scanner's screen. I spent about a half hour playing with drivers, etc. on the laptop before actually finding it was connected and then it was smooth sailing. Granted, I did a lot of research prior to buying and included an external vehicle antenna as well as a replacement Remtronix (a huge improvement over the stock antenna), plus a nylon case. I had read complaints about audio volume but, for me, it's a vast improvement over my ancient scanner (and I have ancient hearing, as well, at age 59 lol), even within the nylon case. The scanner is mostly very intuitive and my first impressions are great, for it will serve my purposes quite well. Some have complained about sensitivity but only time will tell. I've simply been listening to BNSF in their nearby Williston yard from within my old, thick-walled apartment using only the Remtronix antenna and the audio has been nearly perfect. We shall see how it does on the road but I've excellent first impressions. Thanks, BW!
