My first one was a BCD325P2 and was a piece of junk. Never worked right from the day I got, even after I had it reprogrammed. This BCD436HP is 100 percent better. It has met my expectations so far.
As a retired Fire Lieutenant I wanted something that I could use to still keep an ear on the Apco 25 Trunking Fire Ground channels and this BCD436HP scanner was axactly what I was looking for. I initially had a little trouble with the Sentinel software but the support staff at Bearcat were kind enough to log into my computer remotely and show me what I was doing wrong. This scanner is very easy to use and allows me to navigate easily to whatever fire ground channel I want to monitor. It has good sensitivity and good clear audio, I love it.
Bearcat has always taken care of me from my original scanner as a teenager 50 + years ago , The Electra Bearcat III 8 channel VHF crystal scanner to my retirement days now using the BCD436HP to monitor Digital Trunking Radio Traffic.
Thanks Bearcat
It's a solid value for the money and very easy to program, it works almost as soon as you turn it on. The zip code function also makes it much simpler to align with your local radio bands.
Overall happy with the scanner, only concern is that many of the channels for my area are not being picked up by the scanner. Not sure if this a programming issue or if the channels are encrypted.
So far a good unit! With changes from Analog to PS-25 I & II, I'm glad I have the unit! The 'deep technical' ends of the scanner; I have a person struggle! From updates, to narrow the area I choose to listen to! Once I get this mastered, others where I live may need help when they upgrade(of they decide to make the investment)! In due time, I personally made the right choice! On a good note!!! I do like the "easy programing" of "just the Zip Code"! Where in the old days, I had to program each frequency!!!
